Groups & Sects

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

It was reported from ‘Awf ibn Maalik who said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The Jews were divided into seventy-one sects, one of which is in Paradise and seventy are in the Fire. The Christians were divided into seventy-two sects, seventy-one of which are in the Fire and one is in Paradise. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, my Ummah will be divided into seventy-three sects, one of which will be in Paradise and seventy-two will be in the Fire.” It was said, O Messenger of Allaah, who are they? He said, “Al-Jamaa’ah.”

[Sunan Ibn Maajah, no. 3982]

Characteristics of the Hypocrites

In the Qur'an, Allah has revealed the machinations of the hypocrites, He has unveiled their beliefs, their qualities, and made their goals clear so that the believers can be aware of them. He divided mankind into three groups in the beginning of Surah al-Baqarah: the believer, the disbeliever, and the hypocrite. He mentioned four verses concerning the believers, two verses concerning the disbelievers, and thirteen verses concerning the hypocrites due to their plenitude and the great harm and tribulation they bring to Islam and the Muslims. The harm they cause to Islam is truly severe for they claim to be Muslims, they claim to aid and support Islam, whereas in reality they are its enemies seeking to destroy it from within, covertly spreading their corruption and ignorance such that the unwary thinks that what they are upon is knowledge and right action.

The Mirage in Iran

By Dr. Ahmad Al-Afghanee TR: Bilal Philips
This translation of Dr. Ahmad al-Afghani's book, Sarab fee Iraan, provides the English reader with a concise view of the treacherous role played by the Shiites in Islamic history. It also examines the doctrines of modern Shiite scholars and presents the Islamic ruling passed on Shiites by both early Muslim scholars, as well as contemporary scholars. The need for material which critically analyzes Shiite doctrines continues to be felt by English-speaking Muslims inspite of recent efforts to fill the void. Pro-Sheeah books, magazines, newspapers and pamphlets in which the noble companions of the Prophet (pbuh) are slandered, 'Alee and some of his descendents deified and Islam distorted, continue to flood Muslim communities throughout the West with little or no written response from Muslim scholars. Consequently, the wave of conversion of Muslims to Shiite thought is steadily increasing to such a degree that Shiite Masjids and centers are actually being founded or built by Shiite converts from mainstream Islam.

Sheikh Abu-Hamza Al-Misri

Note: Due to some technical difficulties some symbols were not scanned correctly in this document, so you may see some strange symbols next to the names of Allah, The Prophet and The Sahabah.

The Clown of Qadian

Before the British Empire left India in 1874, there was a local collaborator by the name of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who would cause friction within the Muslim Ummah. When the British were made to leave India, a new problem remained that would cause Muslims to be deceived and result in them leaving the faith of Islam. All knew if the Muslim Ummah were to be one, they would easily focus on propogating Islam for the world to benefit. Mirza Gulam Ahmad preached a new false relegion and tried to lure people by mischievously calling it Islam when in fact it was not and is not Islam. Mirza's false religion is self named The Ahmadiyya Movement and referrred to as Ahmadism/Qadianism by the whole of the Muslim Ummah who declare Ahmedis as non-muslims. In fact the Jewish and Christian religions have more in common with Islam in belief than Qadianism.

Neo-Salafiyyah

By Imam Shakeel Begg and Br Ilyas Townsend Neo-Salafiyyah: This group has appeared in modern times and there is still great confusion and 'fitnah' surrounding it. A very basic definition of salafiyyah is to follow the Qur'an and Sunnah with the understanding of the Prophet , his companions and the Salaf us-Salih (Pious predecessors). There is nothing wrong with the definition of 'salafiyyah'. The term neo-salafiyyah has been used for this lecture because 'shuyukh', 'students of knowledge', brothers and sisters have added concepts and characteristics to salafiyyah to the point that when a person a hears the term 'salafi', their beliefs, thoughts, feelings, assumptions etc are often in direct opposition to what salafiyyah is. How is it a person can associate bad manners, following of a few scholars and no connection with the worldwide ummah (just to name a few) with salafiyyah?
