Sunnah - In Conduct & Character

Unfortunately for many of us the understanding of the sunnah of the noble prophet is limited to an image sketched out in our minds in the form of clothing and physical features. For some the limitation extends further and they act upon particular sunnahs such as the manner of prayer, fasting, Hajj etc. Of course all these acts of sunnah are undisputed and are highly virtuous and many people are zealous in there observance. This talk however, elaborates on how equally, if not more important, is to adopt the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam in ones character and to follow his example in our social, financial, family and personal interactions. Many ahadeeth are related which describe his noble character in detail, including his emotions and mental thoughts when confronted with either joyous or sorrowful news.
Silence is Salvation

Allah & His Prophet (peace be upon him) love the excellent characteristic of remaining silent over vain speech and have exhorted the believers to adopt this exemplary trai. And indeed, one of the beautiful qualities of a believer is that he only speaks good otherwise he remains silent. Unfortunately, in this day and age, we have adopted an un-Islamic approach to this sphere of life and taken on board the maxim'... words will never hurt...'
As a result of this, we deem the deeds of the tongue as being insignificant in comparison to other deeds whereas the reality is that the tongue can lead one to paradise or hell. This talk also outlines the manner, conditions and circumstances in which we have been instructed to speak by the Quran and Sunnah.
Isa - The Prophet of Islam

The Holy Quran relates the remarkable story of Isa (peace be upon him) and his mother in surah Maryam. The Miraculous nature of Isa's (peace be upon him) conception and birth together with certain aspects of his life were misinterpreted, misquoted and exaggerated so as to give rise to a New World religion based on the mistaken ideology of the "Holy Trinity" that forms the basis of Christianity. The simple truth is that Allah is One the All Knowing. He begets not nor is He begotten. All things are created by Him and submit to Him alone. This eloquent commentry dispels the confusion surrounding Isa (peace be upon him) as well as presenting the Islamic perspective on this noble Prophet of Allah.
The Evil Within

Two of the greatest blessings from Allah Ta'ala are peace and prosperity. Today many Muslims despair over the fact that they are deprived of these two blessings by the enemies of Islam. However, Muslims should realise that they too are responsible for the deprivation of these two blessings and are guilty of inflicting dhulm (oppression) upon one another mentally and emotionally. This form of dhulm (oppression) is often overlooked, although it may prove to be more destructive than the former.
The Globalised Suffering of the Muslims

All over the globe one hears of Muslims suffering and being oppressed at the hands of tyrannical rulers and their allies. despite having control over the majority of the worlds natural resources. An explanation of a hadeeth and it's relation to the current day situation, where the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam prophesised how the nations will gather against the Muslims before the end of time makes up the opening part of this speech. Events in certain parts of the world are mentioned and the Muslims are reminded that we are not to despair, as Allah's promise will regin supreme and his assistance is near.
Islamic Education in the West

The importance of Islamic education and learning is emphasised especially with regards to women. The responsibility incumbent on a believer in spreading the message of Allah and His Prophet sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam is outlined, as well as the possible consequences if we fail to collectively take part in fulfilling this responsibility. Part of this duty involves making various forms of sacrifices including financial. The virtues and blessings of spending in the way of Allah, as outlined in the Quran and ahaadeeth are elucidated in the latter part of the talk.
Juristic Differences

Is the Understanding of deen as simple as picking up a copy of an English translation of the Qur'aan or a book of hadeeth and interpreting it oneself as is understood by many of us today. Our beloved Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam once said as part of a longer hadeeth related by Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu and recorded by Imam Tirmidhi 'he who speaks with regards to the Qur'aan according to his own opinion then let him prepare his own abode in the fire.'
We remain indebted to our pious predecessors in particular to the four Great Imams and leaders of the authentic schools of thought, who concluded that without perfect understanding and spiritual guidance one cannot obtain true comprehesion of deen.

The Prophet and Heraclius: The Roman Emperor

Me Myself and I

'None of you truly believed, until he desires fopr his brother, that which he desires for himself' declared the Prophet (PBUH). One can never attain taqwa (fear of Allah) and be truly successful in religion until one adopts and practices selflessness. It wsa the selflessness and the self-sacrifice of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Sahabah which was responsible for Islam reaching us today. Islam has placed a great emphasis on the spirit of sacrifice within many of its teachings. Selfishness is disease which is rampant amongst people, both Muslims and non-Muslims. This talks discusses some aspects of selfishness.
